How We Can Work Together

Overview

At Seeking Sunrise, I offer trauma-informed, relational support that integrates evidence-based individual psychotherapy techniques with nature, movement, and the presence of my therapy dog, Parker, either outdoors, in my cozy office (in Sechelt - Sunshine Coast, BC) or from the comfort of your home through virtual sessions.

You’re welcome to choose from four ways of working together:

  • Walk-and-Talk Therapy

  • In-Person with Parker (cuddles included)

  • Virtual Sessions

  • Kayak Therapy

Whether we’re walking through the trees, sitting quietly with Parker, connecting online, or floating on the water, this is a space where you can show up just as you are. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking something different, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.

You can learn more about each service below. If you still have questions check out my FAQs page.

Walk and Talk

Person walking on a fallen log in a wooded forest, wearing sneakers, jeans, and a dark jacket, with trees and fallen leaves around.
  • Walk-and-talk therapy offers a gentle, grounded way to experience counselling while moving through nature. Rather than sitting across from each other in an office, we walk side by side, letting the rhythm of movement and the natural world support the conversation.

Being outside can help reduce anxiety, bring clarity, and make it easier to feel emotionally regulated. Some clients find that walking makes it easier to open up, especially when sitting face to face feels too intense.

Most of my sessions take place at Knickknpark or Hidden Grove, two peaceful outdoor locations that offer quiet trails and space to move at your own pace. We can also walk near the Trail Bay Pier on the beach if you’re comfortable with a more public setting — please note that this option can only be booked as an in-person session.

These sessions are always collaborative and paced to meet you where you’re at — physically, emotionally, and energetically. And if you’d like a little extra support, Parker, my therapy dog, is usually happy to join us.

  • Walk-and-talk therapy may be a good fit if:

    • You feel more at ease talking while walking

    • You’re looking for a less traditional therapy setting that feels a little less office-y

    • You’re navigating anxiety, grief, burnout, or life transitions

    • You want to reconnect with your body, your breath, and the outdoors

    • You prefer a therapy approach that feels more natural, more relaxed, and less formal

    • You are comfortable with being in a public or semi-private outdoor space while engaging in therapy.

    • And if the idea of sitting in a quiet room, facing a therapist with a clipboard, makes you want to run for the hills — trust me, I get it

This service is available to youth (14+), adults, and parents. Sessions are adapted to support most physical abilities. Parker the therapy dog can join us if you’d like. His presence is always by invitation and never a requirement — unless you’re carrying treats, in which case he may insist.

  • 50-minute sessions: $140

Sessions may be eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits if your provider covers services by a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).

An invoice will be emailed to you after each session, which you can submit to your provider for potential reimbursement.

I offer a free 15-20 minute consultation to explore whether this feels like the right fit for you.

In-Office Therapy – Canine-Assisted by Parker

Close-up of a dog's face, with one eye and nose prominently visible, inside a home with picture frames on the wall in the background.
  • Some people feel more at ease with a therapy dog nearby. Whether it is his calming presence, steady breathing, or quiet support, Parker seems to know when to lean in and when to nap. He is basically the world’s fluffiest co-therapist, minus the credentials. You can also read more about his bio, training, and experience here.

In-person sessions take place in my private Sechelt office, a cozy, living-room-like space where you can settle in while Parker offers a warm gaze, a tail thump, or a gentle nudge. Sometimes it is for grounding, and other times it is simply for a bit of attention, a hug, or even a kiss.

These sessions are guided by what you need that day. Parker is not the focus, but his presence often helps people breathe deeper, feel more grounded, or simply less alone.

You do not have to be a “dog person” to benefit, although many leave with new appreciation for soft ears and unconditional support. This can be part of ongoing therapy or a one-time session when you just need a calm space with canine company.

  • In-person therapy with Parker may be a good fit if:

    • You’re navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, or emotional overwhelm

    • You feel more grounded around animals or have struggled to connect in traditional talk therapy

    • You’re neurodivergent or sensitive to overstimulating environments

    • You’re looking for a slower-paced, relational space to reconnect with yourself

And… you’d rather spend time cuddling with Parker in a cozy office with a warm tea than walking outdoors.

This is a great option if you’re hoping to bond more closely with Parker and appreciate the calm, connected presence of a therapy dog nearby throughout your session. Expect tail wags, cuddles and the occasional dog kiss.

Virtual Therapy

  • Virtual sessions offer a flexible and accessible way to experience therapy, no matter where you are. Whether you're curled up on the couch in your comfiest hoodie, sitting creekside with your earbuds in, or tucked somewhere quiet between work and life, we’ll find a a format that works for you.

Even though we’re not sharing the same physical space, the heart of the work stays the same. It remains relational, grounded, and collaborative. And yes, Parker can still make show up on screen if you’d like.

Together, we’ll create a virtual space that feels real, supportive, and connected, even from a distance.

  • Virtual therapy may be a good fit if:

    • You’re navigating anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, or life transitions

    • You’re looking for support but prefer the flexibility and comfort of being at home

    • You don’t live locally on the Sunshine Coast but still want to work together

    • You’re balancing parenting, work, or caregiving and need something that fits into your full life

    • You want to feel supported without needing to show up anywhere but your screen

    • And if you feel best in your PJs, coffee in hand, and a pet curled up nearby.

This service is available to youth (14+), adults, and parents. All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection, and a little time carved out just for you. We’ll figure out the rest together.

Kayak Therapy Sessions

Two kayakers paddling on a calm lake surrounded by trees and mountains during sunset or sunrise.
  • If walk-and-talk therapy is a way to get outdoors and do therapy, why not on the water too?

Kayak therapy offers another approach to nature-immersed counselling. Instead of sitting indoors, we meet on the water in single kayaks, creating space for reflection, conversation, and movement side by side.

These sessions invite calm, openness, and connection. Being on the water can support nervous system regulation, ease tension, and offer a deeper sense of presence in both body and mind. There is something about floating gently across the surface, surrounded by nature, that helps people slow down and tune in to themselves, their breath, and whatever might need to be processed or released.

You do not need to be an experienced paddler, just comfortable getting wet and trying something new. We will go at a relaxed pace, and you will have space to gain confidence in your own kayak while still feeling supported and connected throughout.

Parker will not be joining us on the water. His butt is a little too big to sit on my lap, but he will be waiting to join us in our next on-land session.

Kayak therapy can be booked as a one-time session if you are looking for 1.5 hours of focused, solution-oriented support. It can also be part of our ongoing therapy work, either regularly or as something we return to when being on the water feels like the right fit for what is coming up in your life.

  • Kayak therapy may be a good fit if:

    • You are navigating anxiety, stress, grief, burnout, or life transitions

    • You feel more grounded or calm when you are near or on the water

    • You want to reconnect with your body in a supportive, natural setting

    • You are open to being in a public or semi-private outdoor space

    • You enjoy moving side by side rather than sitting still face to face

    • You are looking for a slower, more spacious alternative to traditional therapy

    • And if sitting in a therapy office makes you feel stuck, but floating on the water sounds like something your nervous system can get behind, this might be a good place to start

This service is available to adults and youth (14+) who are comfortable paddling a single kayak.

  • We will meet at a designated launch spot and begin with a short overview of paddling basics and a safety check. You will be in your own single kayak, and I will be beside you in mine, moving at a relaxed pace.

No kayaking experience is required. Most of the session will take place on the water, with room for quiet reflection, conversation, and connection to the natural surroundings. We will spend about 1.5 hours paddling, with 20 to 30 minutes at the beginning and end for setup, orientation, and pulling the kayaks out.

These sessions are designed to meet you where you are, both physically and emotionally. You set the pace, and I will be right there with you.

Please note that while I have experience working at a kayak shop and feel confident supporting clients on the water, I am NOT a certified paddle guide. These sessions are not intended as guided paddling tours or lessons. You will be participating at your own risk, and your safety and comfort will always be a priority. If conditions are unsafe, we will reschedule.

  • 2-hour kayak therapy sessions: $255

    This includes:

    • Approximately 1.5 hours on the water

    • 20 to 30 minutes for kayak setup, safety review, and end-of-session transition

    • Single kayak, paddle, and life jacket rental (valued at approximately $45)

Sessions may be eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits if your provider covers services by a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).

An invoice will be emailed to you after each session, which you can submit to your provider for potential reimbursement.
